E3 is upon us,the comic con for gamers. Up first was the corporate beast known as EA.
EA had already announced its big titles, before its E3 keynote. But it brought with them a number of smaller announcements, including a new indie game that’s launched last night ( unravel two, yarnie is a cute little platformer) , as well as some gameplay footage for the anticipated BioWare game Anthem( very excited for that). The show was filled with promises that EA isn’t going to repeat last year’s Battlefront II loot crate debacle ( bf2 is a great game but the damage was done,if you havent picked it up i guarantee you wont regret doing so now ).
After being announced last year, studio BioWare’s new game Anthem was due for a real reveal. It’s a shared-world role-playing game set in a hostile future, where players don powered armor suits known as javelins ( totally ironman suits … but not ) to play cooperative missions. EA offered a release date, some more details, and a few minutes of gameplay. The footage so far makes it look like a combo of mech warrior, Destiny-styled massively multiplayer gameplay, and epic science fiction that BioWare is known for ( mass effect and dragon age fans rejoice ) Anthem is released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 22nd, 2019. Got to say cant wait for this.
Next was battlefield V.
jumping on the perfected by fortnite battle royal game.
This isn’t a big surprise, since it feels like everygame is getting a competitive multiplayer mode inspired by Fortnite. But now we know that Battlefield V will let you fight to be the last player standing in a World War II battlefield. ( Guess thats kind of what war is though). In any case, we got a new trailer with a bit of multiplayer gameplay and some detail about the game’s single-player War Stories.with more promised at tonights xbox conference. Im a big fan of the battlefield games and loathe call of duty so as long as battlefield stays true to what it is,im happy with more content.
Unravel two ( and it was released today!)
The first Unravel was brilliant with its adorable yarn protagonist Yarny, though it frustrated with its challenging puzzle and platformer gameplay. Last night it was announced it’s getting a sequel called Unravel two, which is supposed to be friendlier, and more playful than its predecessor. Among other changes, Unravel two will feature two Yarny characters, which means that either one player can control both, or two people can play cooperatively. Unravel two is released immediately on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Sea of solitude, this one looks beautiful like an homage to depression and loneliness personafied. Indie game Sea of Solitude looks a marvel and One of the game’s core themes is that when humans get too lonely, they turn into monsters and in this case, that’s literally the plight of main character Kay, who must explore a near deserted city finding others like herself. Sea of Solitude is shaping up to be a hauntingly stunning little game when it comes out in early 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
We got new star wars info too!! Titan developer Respawn have hinted about there game for a while, and now we know it’s called Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. We don’t know much more than that, unfortunately. ( but the premise alone… take my money ) The single-player story game is slated for release during the holiday season in 2019; it’s set after Revenge of the Sith, when the Jedi are being hunted; and it’s got a dark and gritty feel. Oh, and you can use a lightsaber. ( Durrrr )Meanwhile, Battlefront II is getting more content, with characters and levels from the Clone Wars, including playable versions of Anakin Skywalker, Count Dooku, General Grievous, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. No release date though, but there’s a Solo themed expansion arriving on June 12th, featuring new environments on Kessel and a new starfighter mode ( my personal fave ), among other things.
They also announced a command and conquer free to play ( micro transaction riddled ) mobile game. Im personally not bothered with mobile games and im a bit narked off there using a great i.p like c&c like this.
We also got the yearly sports games, but again im not a fan of being sold the same game with a new paint job year after year. I stopped buying FIFA after fifa17.
Overall Ea had a predictable but good start to the conference. An actual command and conquer game would be nice though!
Lets see what xbox brings, because they do need to bring it.
